THE ART OF PUBLICITY
2008 Workshop dates
Sat./Sun. August 23 & 24; Sat./Sun. October 4 & 5.
Fee: $150
This workshop will cover a variety of topics and include lots of fun mini-writing assignments as well as extensive hand-outs and tip-sheets on every topic.
Workshops are designed to meet the specific needs of each student. To make this possible, registered students will be asked to submit a photo/image and description of the work they create and gallery owners/managers will be asked to submit information on their gallery and artists. In addition, students should bring a sample of their work to the workshop (or, if not readily portable, then a photo) as this will be the basis of some of the mini-assignments. More details provided in "registration packet" mail to students upon receipt of registration form and payment.

• the basics (format, content, editing)
• targeting appropriate media (who, how)
• tailoring to different outlets
• timing
• ILLUSTRATIONS AND CAPTIONS
• USING EVENT CALENDARS (print and web)
• WORKING WITH REPORTERS
• IN-PERSON INTERVIEWS• THE NECESSITY OF FOLLOW-UP
• ESTABLISHING AND MAINTAINING GOOD RELATIONS WITH THE MEDIA
